Last night, with the smudge of ash upon our foreheads we began our Lenten Journey. This Sunday, we’ll hear the story of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness. We supposedly model our own 40 day Lenten Journey on Jesus time in the wilderness. But somehow, we’ve turned the temptations he faced into easy fasts or worse, competitive misery.
What if Lent could be more than 40 days without chocolate? What if we took forty days, and six Sundays to get to know Jesus better? What if we let Jesus reintroduce himself to us?
So, this Lent, an invitation and a challenge.
The invitation: Join us in reading Mike Slaughter’s, The Renegade Gospel: The Rebel Jesus. We’ll be meeting Wednesday nights for dessert at 6:30, worship at 7pm and to discuss the book at 7:30.
The challenge: Whatever practice you choose to observe, I dare you to read one of the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Read the story of Jesus, from his humble beginnings, to his life changing ministry, to his death and resurrection. Get to know Jesus, fully human, fully divine. It might just reveal something new about Jesus. It might just reveal something new about you.
Glad to be with you on the journey!
